Kate Bowers, collections services archivist in the Harvard University Library’s University Archives, taught a course entitled “Overview of Archival Description with DACS.” The course took place on November 12, 2007 at Middlebury College and was sponsored by New England Archivists. There were 22 registered students from across northern New England’s educational and historical institutions.

Barbara Burg, research librarian in Widener Library Research Services, Harvard College Library, gave a talk on November 18 at the Dorchester Historical Society entitled “Kindness Uplifts the World: Anna Harris Smith and the Animal Rescue League of Boston.” As a 2004 recipient of an Extended Professional Development Opportunity Program (EPDOP) leave sponsored by the Harvard University Library, Burg was able to begin researching the history of the Animal Rescue League of Boston and its founder, Anna Harris Smith.

Jane Ouderkirk, managing director, Knowledge and Information Assets, Baker Library, Harvard Business School, presented “In Other Words: Using Multiple Taxonomies” at the NELINET Robert L. Cunningham Annual Bibliographic Services conference Subject Access: Out of Control? on November 16 at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.

Martin Schreiner, head of Morse Music and Media in HCL’s Lamont Library, had his Variations for clarinet and his Suite for String Quartet (Seasons) published this fall by Frank E. Warren Music Service. He is currently completing his Concertino No. 2 for Japanese Koto and Orchestra, which is scheduled to be premiered by koto virtuoso Ryuko Mizutani of Japan and the Quincy Symphony Orchestra in November 2008.
